THE SWIMMER by John Cheever

1. The characters in the story; Shirley Adams is Neddy’ s former mistress. When Neddy arrive at her home, she is shocked by his presence and warns him that she will not him any money. She is with a younger man. I don’t like character in this story, because it doesn’t develop, it is monotone character.
2. The story takes place in the affluent suburbs of Westechester County, New York, and focuses on Neddy Merril, who sespite being Middle-aged, wants to retain his youth and believes that he is vibrant individual. I don’t know exactly about the setting in the story, although it just use one setting, I feel confuse after read it.
3. I just get a little point from this story, example; as human we don’t life alone without help another ones.
4. Style; Allegory, the swimmer is often considered an allegory about decline, the aging process, and the life cycle. An Allegory is symbolic representation through character or events of truths or generalization of human existence. In allegory people, places, and events often have more than one meaning-that is, they can stand more than one thing.
5. The important event from this story is when Neddy,s house fire cause themselves mistake
